Whistler’s Wines

Country of Origin: Australia - Barossa Valley (South Australia)
(Est. 1999)

At Whistler, the family is dedicated to producing fine wines from our Heysen Estate vineyard at Marananga, in the heart of the famous Barossa Valley, South Australia. The wines are created to reflect the region of western Barossa and are defined by their vineyard management, unique soils and the micro climate they experience throughout each individual vintage.

Grape growing has been part of the Pfeiffer family way of life for four generations, beginning with Chris and Martin's grandfather, Albert Heinrich Pfeiffer, who owned a vineyard in the Riverland region of South Australia. Albert would spend many hours in the vines, talking to them and encouraging them to grow before harvesting the grapes and selling them to local producers.

Hubert Irving Pfeiffer, father to Martin and Chris, soon followed in his father's footsteps moving his family to a vineyard in Loxton. Hubert, or Peter as he was better known, enjoyed wandering through the vines with his son Martin talking to and training both the vines and his young pupil, just as his father before him.

More than 80 years on, Martin continued the tradition at Whistler Wines. These days his son Josh has taken on the task of viticultralist as well as winemaker.

Riesling

Riesling

750ml/Bottle

Soft citrus flavours on the nose which then carry through to the palate and are accompanied by apricots. A generous and long palate with wonderful texture.

Pale yellow colour with a beautiful green hue. Aromas of lime zest and crème brûlée dominate the nose with a hint of white nectarine and Grandma’s homemade lemonade. The palate is very fruit driven with lemon and lime at the fore. It is quite soft and approachable for a young Riesling, but will age for 5-7 years.

Lifted aromas of melon, lime, pineapple and tropical fruit flavours fill the nose while the palate provides the same flavours with refreshing balanced acid. Aromas of green apple and guava also dominate the nose with melon and cut straw. Soft and smooth on the palate with plenty of fruit flavour. This wine will go well with chicken and fish dishes.

The bouquet is bursting with blackberries and other toasty ripe fruits. A blend of Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Mourvedrè & Merlot the fruit flavours are enhanced by firm tannins, balanced acid leaving a residual taste of raspberry on the palate. Aromas of vibrant red fruits and mixed spices are followed by juicy berries and soft tannins on the palate making this the perfect match to red meats or pasta.

Merlot

Merlot

750ml/Bottle

This Barossa Merlot is big bold and brassy. Aromas of ripe plums and forest fruits mixed with oak undertones. Flavours of blueberries, blackcurrants and burnt fig lead to a soft juicy palate with hints of oak. The smooth mouthfeel is accompanied by flavours of stewed plums and vanilla custard and there is plenty of good acid to see this wine cellar for years. This is a very smooth wine that will continue to get softer with age in the cellar.

Plum, blackberries and mulberries are supported by spice cupboard aromas and freshly turned earth. The juicy palate also reflects these dark fruits and spices with a long savoury finish.

Estate Shiraz

Estate Shiraz

750ml/Bottle

Coffee and dark fruits moving toward an inkiness with a splash of vanilla are predominant on the nose, followed by sweet berries and wet leather, accompanied by white pepper and spice. Sweet dark fruits dominate the palate with hints of vanilla from the oak. This is an elegant wine showing silky tannins and some earthiness. While the finish is smooth this wine has a good 10 years in it.

Dry grown on Kalimna 3C clone vines planted on the estate in 1994, this wine reflects a stellar vintage.
