Country of Origin: Australia - Margaret River

Oceans Estate is a premium wine producer totally owned and managed by the Tomasi Family. It is situated in the Karridale sub region of the Margaret River Wine region. They are the most South Eastern vineyard in the Margaret River appellation.

All of Oceans Estate's fruit is machine harvested. This is a great advantage as harvesting can be done at night when the ambient temperatures are at their lowest. By immediately processing their fruit, they avoid loss of quality.

Plantings have been undertaken from 1999 to 2008 of varieties most suited to their unique vineyard site. These plantings are predominately of ’Bordeaux’ varieties, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. They have also planted Chardonnay. A further planting of Cabernet Franc is being considered.

Cabernet Merlot

Varieties: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot
Notes: The grapes for this wine are 100% estate grown. The colour is mid brick and the wine is in brilliant condition. The nose has cassis, plum and crushed black cherry. There are some spicy notes as well. The palate is of medium to full weight and shows blackcurrant, strawberry, black cherry and some mint chocolate. The tannins are well integrated and the palate is dominated by sweet fruit. The oak is subtle, and the wine has a clean finish.

Merlot (Tomasi Vineyard)

Varieties: 100% Merlot
Notes: This wine is made from block 4 of the Tomasi vineyard. The old vines consistently give them fruit of incredible flavour and intensity. The wine is deep brick in colour and is in bright condition. The nose shows mulberry, red fruits, strawberry and some cedar. The palate follows seamlessly sweet fruit to the fore with mulberry and strawberry being dominant. There are oak and skin tannins in good balance providing good structure. The palate is long and full with a clean finish. It has a wonderful smooth velvet like texture with oak imparting a spicy note. One of their best yet.
